How to pick the best beverage refrigerator for the cheapest price
Do you want to save space in your kitchen fridge but still have a way to keep icy cold drinks on hand? A beverage cooler can help!
If you’re anything like me, you like to have certain drinks stocked in your house at all times This includes things like beer, wine, soda, and other beverages that taste better when they’re cold.
In my family, storing drinks in the kitchen refrigerator became a real nuisance for several reasons.
Number one was the limited space in the fridge. With all of the other food and condiments taking up space, only a handful of drinks could ever be stored in it at one time. And there were four of us all trying to claim space for our favorite beverages!
Second, we always had to keep an eye on what drinks were getting low and were constantly restocking them so there was a cold one to grab when wanted it.
And finally, with my kids getting older I didn’t feel as comfortable with my beer being freely accessible in the fridge. I wanted a way to keep it out of sight (and out of mind) but still have it be icy cold for when I wanted to enjoy my favorite brew.
After talking to my wife about it, we decided to look into getting a cheap beverage cooler. This would get the drinks out of our kitchen fridge and give us a dedicated space to hold all of our beverages without any fuss.
So we gave it a try.
I was amazed at how many beverages you can actually keep in a small beverage cooler, and they come with so many great options too!
Once we bought a dedicated beverage center for our drinks, things around our house got so much better.
I always had an icy cold beer on hand for the weekend, my wife had a perfectly chilled bottle of wine for the evening, and my kids had cold sports drinks whenever they wanted them.
We were impressed so much by the convenience of this thing that we ended up buying two – one to store (and lock up) adult drinks in the kitchen and another for our kids to enjoy in their game room.
That way, everybody was happy!
So, how do you pick the best beverage fridge for your own home bars, basements, and kitchens without spending a lot of cash? And get one that has all of the features to suit your needs?
That’s where I can help!
As your trusty companion, I’ve put more than 12 top rated beverage coolers to the test and turned my home into a mini grocery store, all for the sake of putting together this handy buyer’s guide.
My goal here is to help you pick the best beverage coolers without wasting a lot of time.
To do that, we’ll first start by going over the important features you don’t want to miss when shopping for a dedicated beverage fridge. Then, I’ll share with you my top five picks and explain what makes them so great.
Features to look for in the best beverage coolers
Before we jump into the list of top beverage refrigerator reviews, there are some key elements you’ll want to consider before making a purchase.
Beverage centers offer a lot more than your standard mini fridge. That’s what makes them such a great investment to have around the home.
However, not all beverage fridges come with the same perks. By paying attention to what options are available on these appliances, you’ll be able to find the best beverage refrigerator for your needs while saving the most amount of money.
Storage Capacity (number of cans)
You know the old saying that more is better? Well, this is definitely true for the number of drinks and different sizes of containers you can fit into your new beverage cooler.
These types of refrigerators are measured by the number of 12-ounce cans they can hold. Storage capacity ranges for these products to hold 62 to 150 cans.
If you like to stock up on a lot of different varieties of cans and bottles, you might want to consider looking for a bigger fridge. That way you can hold everything you need as well as an assortment of container sizes without running out of space.
When you’re thinking about the best beverage refrigerator to buy, it’s important to think about the types of drinks you’re going to store in it.
That’s because drink fridges come with two types of racks:
- slide out only
- adjustable up and down
If you’re only going to store 12-ounce cans of soda or beer, then adjustable racks don’t matter since all of your containers are the size height. Slide out racks are perfectly fine.
However, if you plan to keep an assortment of beverage types in your new fridge (sports drinks, wine bottles, taller beers, etc.) then adjustable racks are the way to go so you can make sure everything fits.
3 of the products I recommend below have adjustable shelves while the other 2 are removable only. Choose the one that makes the best sense for your beverage needs.
In the world of beverage fridges, there are two types of thermostats:
- a manual knob for setting low to high temperature degree Fahrenheit
- an electronic control panel with touch controls for precise temperature Fahrenheit adjustment
If having a cool beverage is all you care about, a manual knob is a fine choice. But, if you want to store your craft brews or wine at a certain temperature for optimal taste, a cooler with an electronic thermostat is well worth the investment.
To help you find the right type for your needs, I’ve noted which products have each type of thermostat in my reviews below.
While it may not seem like a huge deal, reversible glass doors are a great option to have.
Not only does it make using the fridge more comfortable for the primary user (who may be right or left-handed) but it also gives you more options for where to store it.
You may find that you want to place the refrigerator up against a wall or install it under a cabinet. If that’s the case, the direction that the door swings open becomes a big concern.
A reversible door allows you to position your new beverage cooler anywhere you like inside your home without any inconvenience.
Ventilation (front or back)
Before you buy your new beverage cooler, you’ll have to decide where you’re going to place it. This will determine the type of ventilation that is required for it to work properly.
All refrigerators need proper ventilation so they don’t overheat.
If you want to enclose the unit on all sides by installing it under a cabinet or tucking it away in a corner under a desk, you’ll need a front-vented cooler.
If you’re going to keep the fridge out in the open without enclosing the sides then a back-vented cooler is the better choice.
Just know that front ventilation is the more expensive option to have. In many cases, it can double the cost of the fridge. Back-vented refrigerators are the cheapest way to go and if you don’t have to fit the cooler in a specific space, then you can save a lot of money by going this route.
3 of the beverage refrigerators I review below are back-vented. The other 2 are front-vented for custom installation purposes.
Security door lock
Lastly, having the option to secure your stash of drinks may be an important concern for you.
I know it was for me when I wanted to keep the alcoholic drinks in my home bar refrigerator out of the hands of my rising teenagers. That’s why I bought a beverage cooler that included one.
Having the peace of mind that comes with a security door lock and a key is hard to put a price tag on. 3 of the top beverage coolers I review below come with this handy feature.
The Top 5 Beverage Refrigerator Coolers
During my research, I uncovered a lot of good (and bad) products when putting together this list of the best beverage cooler reviews.
After chilling all types of drinks (beer, soda, wine, and juice), I was finally able to narrow it down to the top five winners for you. There’s something for everybody here, including a cheap fridge that holds just enough drinks for one or two people, to a slim design cooler that holds tons of drinks and can be installed seamlessly inside a kitchen.
I hope you find the best drink fridge for your home among this list.
(High Quality) Cheap Beverage Cooler Options
If you’re looking for the best beverage refrigerator that’s not only affordable but can also hold a lot of drinks, this is it!
This freestanding cooler storage capacity can hold up to 120 cans and includes 3 adjustable shelves that allow you to fit taller bottles too. It’s great for home bars, basements, and kitchens.
The ventilation for this fridge is on the back which means it can’t be fully enclosed. If that’s o.k. with you, you’ll save a considerable amount of money buying this unit.
The blue interior led lights are also a nice touch and add a pleasant glow to your drinks. And the security lock feature ensures that only you hold the key to who can access your stash.
The only downside to this cheap beverage cooler is that it has a manual thermostat knob on the back. If it was electronic then you could dial in an exact degree to cool your beverages.
Aside from that, this is the cheapest and best refrigerator for drinks you can get!
Perhaps you’re trying to find a beverage cooler that you can install in under a kitchen counter or in a man cave.
If that’s the case, then this is best beverage fridge for your needs.
Since it’s front-vented and has a reversible glass door, you can enclose it on all sides and install it anywhere you want for quick access to ice cold drinks.
At only 15″ wide, this stainless steel beverage cooler holds an impressive number of cans (96) and has 6 wire racks that can be adjusted however you see fit. Use it to store beer, soda, wine bottles, and more. An electronic thermostat also gives you full control over the temperature degree Fahrenheit so you can keep your drinks as cold as you like.
The picture doesn’t do it justice but the blue interior led lights brighten up the case a lot more than it seems. And you can keep a safeguard over your cool beverages with a handy lock and key.
For an installable drink cooler, this unit is hard to beat!
Do you want to spend the least amount of money possible on mini fridges but still need it to hold a decent amount of drinks?
If so, this is the top cheap beverage cooler you can buy.
For such a low price, you’re getting a small unit that holds 62 cans with 1 removable shelf. That’s a fair amount of cool beverages for such a low price.
Keep in mind that the refrigeration vent is on the back. This means you won’t be able to enclose it. However, this freestanding drink cooler does have a reversible glass door with stainless steel edging so you can flip it if you need to place it next to a wall.
One thing I wish it had, but it doesn’t, is a door lock. That’s not a huge dealbreaker if you’re just looking for a cheap beverage cooler that can hold your favorite drinks.
This is another one of the highest rated beverage coolers
for one particular reason – it holds up to 150 cans!
For home use, you’re not going to find a better deal than this product without having to double the amount of money you want to spend.
It features a thermostat control panel with touch controls so you can keep your stash at a certain temperature and includes 4 adjustable shelves to rearrange your cans and bottles as you’d like.
It’s back-vented, so you have to keep it in an open space and unfortunately, the door is not reversible. It only swings open right. If that’s a concern for you, you may want to choose one of my other recommendations.
You do get an electronic thermostat so you can set a precise temperature for your drinks. That’s a much-needed perk for holding so many cool beverages! And finally, the interior lights shine a nice blue color through the interior cabinet.
My final recommendation for the best beverage cooler is this front-vented unit right here.
It’s identical in every way to number #2 pick except for two slight differences.
- It only holds 80 cans.
- The 3 glass shelves are removable but not height adjustable.
Other than those things, you’re getting a great home bar refrigerator or supplemental cooler for your kitchen.
The price runs about the same as my #2 recommendation so depending on which one has the better deal right now may impact which one you want to buy. That is if you’re fine with only storing 80 cans at a time instead of 96.
