Do you have trouble falling asleep?
Do you wake up time and time again for no apparent reason?
Well, you’re not alone.
35% of people report that they don’t get a good nights rest and 20% also state that they don’t wake up feeling refreshed any day of the week.
It’s no wonder why the sleep aid market is estimated to rise in value to more than $79 million dollars by the year 2022.
But with so many different products to help you stay asleep being sold today, are there any that actually work?
As your trusty companion, I’m here to share with you what the best products for sleep are so you can get to bed faster and stay that way all through the night.
Below are the top things to help you sleep better at night that don’t cost a fortune to try.
Sleep mask
Light is one of the biggest external factors that impact your sleep.
It does this both directly and indirectly.
Directly, it affects your ability to fall asleep in the first place and indirectly it influences your body’s internal clock which is what keeps you asleep.
Even a small exposure to light can have a detrimental effect on your sleep cycle. This includes the light that comes from a nightlight, and a small beam of light streaming through a cracked curtain in the morning.
The best solution for limiting your exposure to light is by wearing a sleep mask. Sleep masks block the light from external sources and help improve your overall sleep.
Earplugs
Noise is another thing that easily disrupts your sleep in a direct and indirect manner.
As you sleep, your brain continues to pick up on and register sounds at a basic level. Even if a soft noise at night doesn’t fully awaken you, these types of interruptions still affect your sleep quality and sleep cycles.
Wearing a pair of earplugs is a simple way to block out as much noise as possible so it doesn’t awaken you at night.
These days, earplugs come in all types and finding a pair that both fits your ears and are comfortable is much easier to do. Some are made of soft foam, others with silicone, and the best ones, in my opinion, are a pliable wax. The wax type molds perfectly to your ear canal and blocks out a tremendous amount of noise.
If you’ve never tried earplugs at night before, now is a good time to do it. It may seem a little uncomfortable at first but I assure you that you’ll get used them to pretty fast and your sleep will improve because of it.
Noise machine
Now, this may seem counterintuitive given my last recommendation but a noise machine can actually help you fall asleep quicker and stay that way longer.
How?
Because a noise machine can drown out any outside noises that tend to wake you up. It also plays a sound on a constant loop which you get accustomed to hearing. The most popular sounds are white noise, crashing waves, and nature.
As you hear these noises played on a loop, you start to lose track of time and get immersed in the sounds. This immersion helps you fall into a deeper sleep faster and does a great job at keeping you asleep.
Some people find the combination of earplugs and a noise machine to be a perfect remedy for their sleep issues.
Memory foam mattress topper
Do you have an expired mattress?
If so, it could be the main culprit for what’s keeping you awake at night.
Most good mattresses only last about 5 to 10 years before you need to replace them. Keeping it any longer means you’re jeopardizing your sleep.
But buying a new mattress is an expensive endeavor and not everyone can afford it. Fortunately, there is now a cheap alternative that can extend the life of your mattress by a few years. It’s called a memory foam mattress topper (or pad).
Memory foam mattress pads go on top of your existing mattress and revitalize the comfort that it has lost.
Some of the best memory foam mattress pads are also infused with gel. This gel creates a cooling sensation so that your body doesn’t get overheated at night.
Memory foam is an amazing product and if you’ve never slept on one before, you need to give it a try. Once you lay down on it, you’ll never want to get back up!
Dehumidifier
Did you know that humidity can impact your sleep?
It’s true.
The more moisture that’s in the air, the harder it is for you to breathe and the hotter you’ll feel.
By adding a compact dehumidifier to your bedroom you can ensure that the room doesn’t collect too much water vapor. A small dehumidifier can regulate the moisture in the space so it’s at a perfect level to induce sleep.
I review the best cheap dehumidifier here, as well as four other top recommended products. Take a look when you get the chance.
Air Purifier
Like I mentioned in the last section, the air quality around you has a huge impact on how well you sleep. Another factor related to this are airborne contaminants.
Pollutants in the air such as dust, pet dander, bacteria, mold, and allergens can enter your lungs while you sleep and disrupt your breathing patterns. Even the slightest particle irritating your airways can prevent you from falling asleep, or worse yet, wake you up from a deep slumber.
Using an air purifier in your bedroom is a cheap and easy way to strip the contaminants from the air around you. Having clean, fresh air to breathe will put less stress on your lungs and help produce a better nights rest.
Massage recliner
The last product I’d like to recommend for getting a better nights sleep is a massage recliner.
It’s often that the stresses from the day are a big factor in what keeps you awake at night. This includes both physical stress and mental stress.
A massage recliner or chair is an easy solution for relaxing and unwinding after a hard day at the office or watching over the kids. These products are so affordable these days too that you don’t have to spend a ton of money to get something great.
I recently posted a guide on the best massage recliners. Take a look if this perks your interest. You’d be surprised at how comfortable and soothing these things can be and how a few minutes before bedtime can help relax your body enough to fall asleep better.
While this post focused on products to help you sleep better at night, I do have a lot more modern home gadgets on my site. If you’re interested in learning how to make things simpler around the home, you may want to give them a look.
Anyways, I hope this short list has given you a few ideas for sleeping products to try. And hopefully one or more of them are exactly what you need to get a good nights rest!
